I think the problem may be related with your previous work in SQL Perspective. Can you please confirm that before switching to HDFS Perspective you were working in SQL Perspective? We have found one memory leak which holds memory even when you stopped your work in SQL Perspective (closed editors were still stored in memory). If you were working only with HDFS Perspective and OutOfMemory exception happened, could you please describe your workflow in HDFS Perspective in more detail?
Right now I can only advise you following things:
- Increase maximum memory which can be allocated for Toad for Hadoop. In installation directory find a file named toad4hadoop.ini and increase -Xmx parameter to suitable value (for example -Xmx4096m will allocate 4 GB of memory for Toad for Hadoop).
- More suggestions on how to avoid OutOfMemory are listed by Lukas here.
